Fished the 3rd tournament of 5 for the Saltwater Bass Series yesterday in Long Beach. Fishing was good! We caught around 80 good sized bass, but just couldn't find the kicker bass. Ended up with 2nd place with a 21.52 lb limit. Al and I are staying consistent and sitting in 3rd place for the series. Rookie HUB team Frank and Richard struggled a bit, but pulled off 5th staying consistent riding 2nd in the series. The big story of the day tho is Ty & Luke Wiese. This father son team just started fishing 2 years ago and only use HUBs since they started. Now they are winning tournaments! Congrats guys! So rad to see you two killing it, taking 1st in the rookie division. Also want to thank all the people that are part of the HUB family that either fish the tournaments or just come out to show support. You guys are awesome and make us proud. We caught 3 limits of keeper bass, but just didn't get the right ones in the boat and took 8th out of 35 teams. Congrats to the HUB Rookie team of Frank and Richard for their 3rd place finish! Also want to thank all the HUB supporters that are now fishing the series. So cool to see ya'll out there. Thanks Gerry and crew for the awesome tournament series. The day started at 4:00am at Dana Landing with the HUB team setting up for the tournament. A few boats were already lined up ready for tournament. Registration went smoothly, Captain/Anglers bags were given out, and fresh donuts and coffee for all. The tournament started at Safe Light and at 6:15am Anglers could begin to log in their catches. We used the iAngler app which allows an Angler to catch, measure, photograph and release their fish. It was important to Hookup Baits and CCA CAL that all bass were released. The results started flowing in as we all watched the leader board in each division. 11am the Casting Contest began. This was for our Groms (17 and younger) to see how well they could cast and for accuracy. We had (12) participants. In the Division 12 and younger, Tanner took 1st place with a total distance of 84.7 and 10 points for accuracy. Paul Vasguez from the Grom 13-17 Division took 1st place with a distance of 102 and 5 points for accuracy. Afterwards even adults and HUB team members tried their hand at this contest which was a lot of fun. Lunch was provided by Tarantino Sausage, so as Anglers came off the water they had a delicious meal to enjoy. This was also a great time to sit with our participants and volunteers to exchange fishing stories and have lots of laughs. The raffle was set up between 11-2 and what amazing prizes we had. Written by Jojo Evelyn L. Breech loved to fish! It didn’t matter if it was freshwater or saltwater, Grandma loved being on the water. Some of her favorite places to fish were the Colorado River, Martinez Lake - north of Yuma, and San Felipe Baja, Mexico. I remember many weekends where Grandma Evelyn and my mom would head out in Grandma’s boat for a fishing tournament with the Yuma Women’s Reel and Rifle Club. They won many awards because they were a great team! If Grandma wasn’t fishing, then she was buying fishing pole blanks. She set up a special table where she would sit and wrap fishing poles for fresh and saltwater. She used them for her own personal fishing, different tournaments, and gave many to family members as gifts. I have so many wonderful memories of fishing with my mom, dad, and Grandparents. Grandma Evelyn has passed away, but I treasure each and every handmade pole she made. Every fishing bag that has her initials “ELB” written on it reminds me of her and I hope to carry on the passion of the sport of fishing being a third-generation woman that loves to fish. I know if Grandma Evelyn was here today she would be Hookup Baits' biggest cheerleader out there on the water fishing with the baits. In her honor, for our 1st Hookup Baits tournament to be held on October 6, 2018, my parents gave me many boxes of trophies that were won by my Grandma [...]

Fished the SBS kings of calico Saturday. We decided to stay local and was able to put together a nice 23 lb bag but the guys that fished Mexico turned in some impressive bags. We did however catch some monster sand bass and Al got a big lingcod. Fun day over all. #hookupbaits #grundens #shimanofishing #mossynissanelcajon #saltwaterbassseries #mermaidsmilk Check out the original facebook post here and share from our page!
Fished the CCA Battle of the Bays kayak Tournament out of Channel Islands Harbor today. Jimmy and Wayne and the crew from CCA do such an amazing job putting these tournaments together. I was lucky enough to get the big fish award of $320 with a 26inch halibut and my good friend Frank got the big rockfish award. Get out there and fish these tournaments good times, good people and it will make you a better angler. #hookupbaits #cca #purewatersports #grundens #shimanofishing #mossynissanelcajon Check out the original facebook post here and share from our page!
What an incredible weekend of fishing the Saltwater Bass Series (SBS) Championship Tournament in San Diego. Gerry Mahieu and his crew do an amazing job with this series. Thanks Gerry. This 2 day tournament was coastal for day 1 and bay/spotties only day 2. Then combine the weight of both days. There was 28 great teams that qualified to fish the tournament. We won day 1 and struggled finding big spotties on day 2 and finished somewhere mid pack. We ended up getting 2nd place buy .4 of an ounce. Missed going back to back Champs by .4 hurts a bit but all is good and much was learned this season. Big congrats to Hookup Baits rookie team that fished against the masters in this tournament and ended up in 3rd place. Awesome job Frank Santiago and Richard. Also big congrats to Jimmy and Brandon on the win. Way to go Champs. Check out the original facebook post here and share from our page!
