Busy weekend! Friday night = SD Anglers Award Banquet. Congrats to Luke on Jr. Angler of the Year, Lori for Women's Angler of the Year and I got the Mens Angler of the Year! All 3 are HUB users and supporters. Saturday = Anglers Clothing spotty series tournament #3 @ Mission Bay. Took 4th place. Saturday night = Nice Guys charity dinner/auction. Sunday = Coronado Islands. Stayed away from the fleet because I hate fishing in the fleets. We got 1 yellowtail on the second cast and a few big bones. The the wind came up early, so we headed for shelter and picked at the bass and rockfish. Congrats to Frank on the nice halibut. All 4 of us only threw the new HUB Bullets the whole day. Fished the first Saltwater Bass Series event for this season on Saturday. SD Bay spotties only. We caught 3 limits of keeper bass, but just didn't get the right ones in the boat and took 8th out of 35 teams. Congrats to the HUB Rookie team of Frank and Richard for their 3rd place finish! Also want to thank all the HUB supporters that are now fishing the series. So cool to see ya'll out there. Thanks Gerry and crew for the awesome tournament series. Hookup Baits as well as other private boats participated in the Hubbs SeaWorld Research Institute Broodstock Program Thursday and Friday this week. Our goal was to collect Halibut for their program. The goal was to catch 20 male halibut of legal size. The grand total from the two days was: Males - 4 Females - 5 Unknown - 5 - A gonad sample was unable to be attained from these fish, we will try again in a few months! Total - 14!! All the fish are doing well in the tank after handling. Thanks, Chris Arechaederra, for the awesome recap video (below)! Photos Enjoy a few select photos below. The day started at 4:00am at Dana Landing with the HUB team setting up for the tournament. A few boats were already lined up ready for tournament. Registration went smoothly, Captain/Anglers bags were given out, and fresh donuts and coffee for all. The tournament started at Safe Light and at 6:15am Anglers could begin to log in their catches. We used the iAngler app which allows an Angler to catch, measure, photograph and release their fish. It was important to Hookup Baits and CCA CAL that all bass were released. The results started flowing in as we all watched the leader board in each division. 11am the Casting Contest began. This was for our Groms (17 and younger) to see how well they could cast and for accuracy. We had (12) participants. In the Division 12 and younger, Tanner took 1st place with a total distance of 84.7 and 10 points for accuracy. Paul Vasguez from the Grom 13-17 Division took 1st place with a distance of 102 and 5 points for accuracy. Afterwards even adults and HUB team members tried their hand at this contest which was a lot of fun. Lunch was provided by Tarantino Sausage, so as Anglers came off the water they had a delicious meal to enjoy. This was also a great time to sit with our participants and volunteers to exchange fishing stories and have lots of laughs. The raffle was set up between 11-2 and what amazing prizes we had.
