1st Annual Hookup Baits Tournament – Recap

By |2018-10-12T17:20:23+00:00October 12th, 2018|News & Announcements, Newsletter, Shows & Events, Tournaments|0 Comments

The day started at 4:00am at Dana Landing with the HUB team setting up for the tournament. A few boats were already lined up ready for tournament. Registration went smoothly, Captain/Anglers bags were given out, and fresh donuts and coffee for all. The tournament started at Safe Light and at 6:15am Anglers could begin to log in their catches. We used the iAngler app which allows an Angler to catch, measure, photograph and release their fish. It was important to Hookup Baits and CCA CAL that all bass were released. The results started flowing in as we all watched the leader board in each division. 11am the Casting Contest began. This was for our Groms (17 and younger) to see how well they could cast and for accuracy. We had (12) participants. In the Division 12 and younger, Tanner took 1st place with a total distance of 84.7 and 10 points for accuracy. Paul Vasguez from the Grom 13-17 Division took 1st place with a distance of 102 and 5 points for accuracy. Afterwards even adults and HUB team members tried their hand at this contest which was a lot of fun. Lunch was provided by Tarantino Sausage, so as Anglers came off the water they had a delicious meal to enjoy. This was also a great time to sit with our participants and volunteers to exchange fishing stories and have lots of laughs. The raffle was set up between 11-2 and what amazing prizes we had. Battle of the Bays Mission Bay Was a Success!

By |2018-05-10T18:37:50+00:00May 10th, 2018|Newsletter, Shows & Events|0 Comments

We were so pumped that Round 1 of the Battle of the Bays event in Mission Bay went so smoothly! Not to mention that our our good friend and great Hookup Baits customer Norm Shoemaker won the tournament!!! 54 were registered and about 45 launched and fished the event, with 18 in the Big Fish side pot and only 4 in the Mity Might contest. All that paid and registered for the tourney will be in the Cedros drawing on July 14th. It was pretty darn foggy early as the guys launched. The wind really picked up as the day went on. The fishing and the Angler submissions were pretty slow in the morning, The photos submissions seemed to pick-up as the tide started to fill in later in the morning. The fishing on the outside was very slow for most of the anglers that made the long, windy and foggy peddle out there. Two kayaks flipped on the outside and needed boat support. I think they're going to shut down the outside fishing next year as this is the second year with guys having issues on the outside.  They'll tweak the rules and maybe the date so more people have time for submissions and involvement since they'll be stuck inside the bay next year. Winners 1st - Our good friend, Norm Campbell, kicked some butt yesterday and won by 14.5 inches with a total bag of 47" to take first place and win a $500 gift card to Dana Landing. [...]

Hookup Baits Custom Surf Board Raffle

By |2018-03-05T14:51:48+00:00February 28th, 2018|News & Announcements, Newsletter, Shows & Events|0 Comments

Who doesn't like a good raffle?! This year, be sure to stop by our booth at the Fred Hall Show in Long Beach to purchase a raffle ticket. You won't want to miss the opportunity to take home a Hookup Baits custom surfboard handmade by designer Josh Oldenburg! Tickets will be $5 a piece, so hurry before they're all gone! To learn more about different seminars and other sponsors/participants, check out the Fred Hall website here. Functionality is first and foremost a part of Josh’s design aspect. Josh builds boards start to finish and handshapes all of his boards. He likes to use organic design elements in the glassing of his shapes. His designs are unique because boards from the past largely inspire Josh. Being able to transform those inspirations into modern designs gives him a sense of freedom to incorporate new takes on old creations. The best way to keep designs and creativity fresh is through Josh’s forms of inspiration. His biggest advantage is that he builds nearly 100 percent of his boards based on custom referrals for specific customers. Tailoring the designs to fit their needs always keeps the building process new and energized. Come support Hookup Baits and get some more knowledge on fishin'! We hope to see you all there!
