Hookup Baits Claims 2nd Place at the 2017 Open Bay Bass Tournament

By | 2017-02-28T09:50:23+00:00 February 28th, 2017|News & Announcements|Comments Off on Hookup Baits Claims 2nd Place at the 2017 Open Bay Bass Tournament

By Dwayne Patenaude This year’s San Diego Anglers Open Bay Bass Tournament was another success. Weather, fishing, awesome BBQ, and raffle have become a trademark of this event and when the dust all settled, it was our own club members Mario and Tony Souza who were standing in the winners’ circle. Their winning stringer of 3 bass weighed 7.79 pounds, which won them the $1500 First prize donated by Doug Kern at Fisherman's Landing Tackle Shop, along with the $1600 jackpot! They also were awarded Daiwa rods and reels along with the 2nd and 3rd place teams! Normally Tony fishes with his wife, Barbie in this tournament, but she chose to stay home, again. She did the same thing 2 years ago and Tony won that event also! I think Barbie has become his Lucky Charm!!!! You just keep staying home Barbie and Tony will keep bringing home the bacon!! Congrats to Barbie, Tony and Mario for bringing home the trophy to the Souza house again!! Second place went to our own Chad and JoJo from Hookup Baits. They weighed in 6.80 pounds, which netted them the $750 donated by Abu Garcia. Their story was a little different. Originally the tournament was scheduled for Jan 21. A week or so before the event I heard from Jojo and she regretfully had to back out of the tourney due to a funeral that she had to attend out of state. She set up a new partner to fish with Chad and [...]

Fishin Report Week of 2/20/17

By | 2017-03-13T14:01:47+00:00 February 26th, 2017|Fishin' Reports|0 Comments

Well not much fishen this week due to getting prepared for the Fred Hall Show. Did get out for a couple hours Thursday to Lake Wolford. Fishing was slow. We got a few trout and one nice bass. The bass and most of the trout were on the 1/32 Chovy Hookup Baits jig. Saturday Jojo and I had a bay tournament on mission bay for San Diego Anglers club. There was a good turn out. We didn't place due to the fact that I went for the home run fish instead of making a limit of fish. I fished big jigs and the rocks and it almost paid off. I hooked a really nice one that won the tug a war for the rocks. We did catch around 30 short bass tho. Nothing picture worthy. 3/8 & 5/8 Hookup Baits jigs in red crab, shad white and glow green were best. Fishin Report Week of 2/12/17

By | 2017-02-23T12:01:14+00:00 February 12th, 2017|Fishin' Reports|0 Comments

Well yesterday's SBS spotted bay bass tournament up in long Beach didn't work out well for team Hookup Baits/ Freedom boat club. We ended up in 15th. We did however catch alot of quality sand bass which will count in next week's tournament. We just haven't fished this area much targeting spotties only so lack of spots to try between Huntington Harbour to the top of Long Beach was the main reason for us not doing well. My team mate Al got the biggest spottie and Sand bass yesterday. Nice job brother. Thanks for fishen with me. Nice Fresh Batch of Red Crab This Morning

By | 2017-02-11T04:50:53+00:00 February 7th, 2017|News & Announcements|0 Comments

Red Crab. This has been one of Hookup Baits top colors. You can see why by how we matched the hatch with the exact red and gold tones of the red crab together with the natural gliding action of a Hookup Baits jig makes these jigs deadly on everything. We have caught lots of quality bass, halibut, yellowtail, white sea bass, rockfish, tuna, sheephead, even sharks. Red crabs are a easy meal for all game fish and nothing imitates one as good as the Red Crab Hookup Baits jig. Order yours today online or buy locally at Angler's Arsenal, LP fishing supply and the small size Jigs at East County Bait and Tackle (See where to buy here.) Fishin Report Week of 2/5/17

By | 2017-02-11T05:38:34+00:00 February 5th, 2017|Fishin' Reports|0 Comments

Today was truly special. I had my best friend Jojo and our great friends Tim and Tara out for a day of bass fishing. The bass were biting good today. We started a little late getting out there a little bit after 8 and fished to around 3. The 4 of us ended up with over 150 mixed calico and sand bass with a few rockfish and sculpin thrown in. Alot of the bass were in the 3 to 6 lb range. 5/8 Hookup Baits in the AM Then the 1 & 1.5 oz Hookup Baits in the PM was the ticket. Color didn't matter it was the action getting bit. It was also cool seeing so many Hookup Baits supporters out there. We had 4 different boats give Hookup Baits shout out's and even made a $50 sale on the water. Lol. Good times.
